A Little Test

Rebecca smirked. This would be quite a surprise for all the students at Lost Academy.

"Alright!"

she yelled, as they gathered around her quizzically.

"This is a test. No wands. You will be in the forest, for two days, all of you, no exceptions. Whichever of you lasts the longest, don't worry, you're not going to die,"

she added irritably, seeing the look one of the kid's faces.

"but I have made it possible for you to get back here if you are harmed."

Rebecca said, voice ringing throughout the crowd.

"Now, I have one fore each of you. Glass spheres. They are charmed, like Portkeys to bring you back here if you are harmed. You will each take one, and if you smash it, well, that's your problem!"

She looked around again.

Becca was proud, of each and every one of them.

"Am I clear? Good. Begin!"

///Roll the 100 DICE! YOU WILL NEED TO ROLL AT LEAST 10 TIMES, and you CAN meet others in the forest, but you CANNOT TEAM UP. Clear, kiddos? Alright then! Oh, and HAVE FUN!///

Riley reluctantly took off into the forest.

The best people are the mental people, the ones who can make the most with what they have, even if it means dying in the process. We're not crazy. And according to the government, we're the majority now.

She heard a snap and stopped immediatly surveying the area wih a sudden feeling of being watched, by something, not human.

"Hello....?"

Yeah, smooth Riles. You totally just blurt out a greeting in a scene of mystery and possible encounters. Why don't you just bake a cake and dance with a corndog?

"Come little children, I'll take thee away.... Into a land... Of enchantment...."

Her voice drifted out into the ongoing fog that spread now over the trees, like a canopy in a rainforest.

Another snap sounded out from behind her into sudden silence.


Her heart as beating faster and faster, what was that strangem thing following her? Was it just Victoria messing with her? Or was it something...real.

Stepping out from the fog was a long grey paw, following by a snout, with barred teeth.




Wolves?! SERIOUSLY??!!

"Go on, scat! Beat it!" She waved her arms and tried to scare the animal off.

Nothing.

She sighed, "You're my patronus.." She whispered, not particularly to anyone or thing.

She wolf slowly stepped nearer her, and her legs stiffened.

Just let it sniff you.. Let it find out who you are... Be patient.

The wolf closed in around her, sniffing and clawing at her ankles.

It let a shrill howl, beautiful howl, into the woods as it sped off into the fog.

She sat down to plan, not really thinking charging in unfit to fight anything was going to work.

Jeremy tore off after Riley, heading for the east side of the forest.

And where will this get us? Oh well, it's like a tournament.

Luck was on his side.

Immediately through the midst of trees he saw a clear spring, bubbling stream, and Jeremy dared to believe it.

Now, should he drink it?

He thought about what Adhara Black would do. Even though she was away because her parents had taken her out of school, he still admired the older Schlau.

No. Adhara wouldn't have dunk the water.

Resigned, Jeremy straightened up, and started off to find food.

A resounding crack echoed off to his left, leading him to whirl around.

Nothing showed itself out of the darkness.

Jeremy did a sensible thing.

He sprinted off to find the nearest and highest tree, and scaled it.

"Scared?" Riley asked quizically leaning against the trunk.

She looked up at the boy. "Yeah, Uh.... If you fall out of the tree, don't come crying to me." She said flicking really, nothing, from her fingernails.

"Well, I'm off."

She pushed off the trunk and trotted over past a log, pulling herself over it.

"SEE YA!!!!"

In the midst of the gloomy fog, Riley could see nothing, but she could hear and feel.

She listened to the cracking sounds of the forest.

The shrill howl of her wolf-friend in the distance; A blue bird perched high in a tree, chirping noisily.

She placed the palm of her hand along the tree-trunk and closed her eyes.

Feeling the rugged bark along her skin made her feel welcome, and she pressed on through the foggy forest.

"Come little children, The times come to play... Here in my garden.. Of magic...."

Riley breathed in the cool, and musky scent of the trees.

Oak, Four yards to the right. And old tree. She darted off to her right, towards the heavy oak.

When she reached it she climbed up into the tree and sat down on a long branch, watching as the misty fog rolled away over the horizon of the tall trees.

Alright, Now that I can see it's time to find food.

Riley jumped down from the branch and impersonated a howl into the wind for no reason.

It rang out into the woods; Not only to actually hear a response.

She smiled and dashed off towards the returned howl.

She stopped as a twig snapped and she suddenly felt like a deer in headlights...

Her fear left when the wolf who had approached her earlier came padding up towards her to sniff her leg.

"Hehe.. Hi.." It blinked and turned around sharply flicking its long shaggy tail.

Riley questioningly followed the creature.

"Hey," She said pushing through the shrubs and logs. "Wait for me."

She tripped over a stone and fell to the ground, but to her amazment, there it was.

The pack. The wolf turned around and sat down and Riley stood up slowly.

Wolves. Everywhere. She bent down by the proud timber wolf and smiled. "So this is what you wanted to show me.."

The wolf blinked once more and padded down a rock edge towards the north end of the pack.

Riley folowed in awe as the pack turned to watch her. The eyes of the wolves made her feel welcome and at home.

I can't help feeling as if I belong here.

When the wolf stopped walking she skidded up behind him.

He pricked his ears and turned his head to look at her warmingly.

Riley nodded and the wolf padded forward with a heavy stride.

Riley followed in hot pursuit until they reached it.

The kill pile. wolves lay around gnawing on bones and dead rabbits.

To riley's surprise the wolf dragged a blood-covered rabbit to her.

She smiled her thanks.

Other wolves began trailing into a large cave on the side of the rock edge.

Riley's wolf friend stayed by her. Funny, this wolf acted like more of a Golden Retriever.

"I'm going to call you...Orion."

Sleep well Orion....

The wolf panted and layed down beside Riley who was spinning two sticks agressively together in her palms.

Soon she had a fire started and was cooking the rabbit over it.

The smell of fresh blood and rabbit filtered through the forest and the warm crackling fire made her tired.

After she had eaten, and the wolf was asleep, she lay down and rested her head on the wolf's abdomen. The warm fur made her fall asleep instantly by the crackling of the fire.

Victoria ran as fast as she could, sprinting towards the heart of the forest.

Soon, regrettably, she had lost her sense of direction, and was hopelessly lost.

Trees, some of them pines, rose above her out of the ground.

Victoria racked her brains for anything that could prove useful.

Nothing...

She cursed under her breath, and suddenly she had a wave of memory.

Moss always grows on the north side of trees...

She walked over to one of the oaks, and bent down.

The North was to her left.

Good.

Riley woke to the rising sun.

It was dawn. Her head lay on the cool ground covered with moss and stones.

"Orion..?" Riley lifted her head slightly and blinked.

She shrugged and stared at the smouldering leaves where the fire once was.

Riley got up and ran off to find Orion, the camp was obviously empty.

Victoria heard a crack.

She whipped around, defenseless.

Heavy breathing sounded from around her, and nothing could be seen through the greenery.

Riley cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled, "Orion??!!"

She backed up and bumped right into someone and screamed bloody murder.

When she turned around she saw none other than the same tangled mess of blonde hair. "GRYFFENDOR!"

She shrieked and caught her breath.

"Are you trying to scare me to death!?"
